Police detain 5 suspects in Minsk bombing

MINSK, Belarus, April 14 (UPI) -- Five suspects have been arrested for the bombing earlier this week of a subway platform in Minsk, Belarus, in which 12 people died, police said Thursday.

Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said three people of the five detained have admitted their involvement in the attack, RIA Novosti reported.

Besides the dozen deaths, more than 190 people were injured when the bomb detonated at the Oktyabrskaya metro station during rush hour on Monday evening.

"All suspects are people under 30. They do not have prior convictions," Shved said.

Belarusian authorities made public Thursday portions of surveillance video that shows how someone put a bag with a radio-controlled bomb beneath a bench on the platform then activated the bomb after moving a safe distance from the device.
