ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, April 13 (UPI) -- An airstrike by an unmanned U.S. aircraft in Pakistan's tribal region killed six suspected militants Wednesday, intelligence officers said.

The officers said the suspected drone fired missiles on a militant location in South Waziristan, in Pakistan's tribal region along its border with Afghanistan, CNN reported.

The strike was the first since March 17, when a drone airstrike in North Waziristan killed 44 people, mostly civilians, two Pakistani sources said.

The United States does not officially acknowledge the drone program that targets al-Qaida operatives, but the United States is the only country present in the region that is capable of carrying out such attacks.
