No sign of Libyan woman who claimed rape

TRIPOLI, Libya, April 3 (UPI) -- The whereabouts of a Libyan woman who alleged she was raped by 15 soldiers last month is a mystery, her father told CNN.

Eman al-Obeidy was hauled away by security forces March 26 from a Tripoli hotel after screaming her story to foreign journalists. Showing bruises to her face and legs, she claimed she had been held for two days and beaten and raped by 15 soldiers in Moammar Gadhafi's army.

Her father, Atiq al-Obeidy, told CNN he hadn't heard from her and he didn't know where she is, although he suspects she's in prison.

"We hope that she is still alive," he said. "We pray for her safety, but I am worried about her fate."

The woman is from the town of Benghazi, a stronghold of rebels trying to topple Gadhafi from power.

Thursday, government spokesman Musa Ibrahim said the woman would be interviewed by female reporters Saturday, but CNN said there was no indication that had happened.
