LONDON, March 25 (UPI) -- The son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour will stand trial for an alleged attack on a convoy carrying Britain's Prince Charles and his wife, officials said.
Charlie Gilmour allegedly threw a rubbish bin at a vehicle carrying the prince's security officers and sat on the hood of the same car during student protests over university tuition increases, The Guardian reported Friday.
Charlie Gilmour is charged with violent disorder growing out of the Dec. 9 student protest when a car carrying Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall was attacked on its way to a theater in London's West End.
The 21-year-old Cambridge University student appeared at City of Westminster magistrates court, where his case was scheduled for April 26 in Southwark crown court.
Charlie Gilmour, one of thousands of people who protested in Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square, was photographed swinging from a union flag on the Cenotaph during the march.
He issued an apology the day after the demonstrations, calling his actions a "moment of idiocy," and added he did not realize the Whitehall Cenotaph monument commemorated Britain's war dead.
His lawyer indicated the violence charge would be contested.
