PERTH, Australia, March 25 (UPI) -- A woman's baby died in utero as she waited for 5 hours in the emergency room of a Western Australia hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Lili Otoreno was at a prenatal clinic at Osborne Park Hospital when her water broke, Casta Tungaraza, president of the National African Women's Congress of Australia, said. By the time she was finally moved to a room, an ultrasound determined the fetus was dead, PerthNow reported.
While Otoreno was told she should be hospitalized immediately and monitored, she was then told she would have to wait for a room to become available, Tungaraza said.
Otoreno said she could feel the baby kicking inside her at the start of the wait.
The North Metropolitan Area Health Service said in a statement the fetal death was being fully investigated.
