MADRID, March 9 (UPI) -- Chile's president asked Spanish businessmen to invest more in Chile to strengthen the alliance between the two countries, Fox News Latino reported Wednesday.
Sebastian Pinera began his three-day state visit to Spain on Monday to strengthen political and economic ties.
"Spain is the second-largest foreign investor in our country after the United States," said Pinera.
Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said Chile has known how to overcome adversity in the last year such as the magnitude-8.8 earthquake that shook the coast of the Maule Region and killed 521 people.
Zapatero also mentioned the rescue of 33 miners that were trapped more than 2,000 feet underground for 69 days in Copiapo.
"Chile displays before the world how Latin American countries can be in the vanguard of development and economic growth," said Zapatero.
Both presidents have an interest in alternative energy sources, transportation and infrastructure, and agreed to continue working together, the report said.
