OTTAWA, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A man is facing charges following a bomb threat at the official residence of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.

The RCMP received a telephoned bomb threat about 1:15 a.m. EST Monday but found nothing threatening at the Ottawa residence of the prime minister, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

"We initiated an investigation ... [but] there was no immediate danger to the prime minister or his family," RCMP Constable Julie Morel said.

Police said they traced the call to a condominium in Gatineau, Quebec, near Ottawa.

When Gatineau officers showed up, a 35-year-old man began threatening them and throwing objects at them, police said.

Police arrested the man and said he is "well-known" to local authorities.

The suspect has been charged with assault and uttering threats, police said.
