Man arrested for Hitler salute in Berlin

BERLIN, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Berlin police have arrested a Canadian tourist for making the "Heil Hitler" salute in front of the Reichstag.

The 30-year-old man from Quebec was with a German friend who photographed him when he posed at the parliamentary building Saturday, the news agency The Local reported, citing Sunday's Der Tagesspiegel newspaper.

Officers confiscated the friend's camera chip, but the man was released after posting bail. The Canadian will be investigated for possible extremist motives.

The Hitler salute and other Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany, but many foreigners do not know that.
