Gadhafi urged to leave Libya for Russia

TRIPOLI, Libya, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The leader of a Russian political party has urged Moammar Gadhafi to stop the violence in Libya and move to Moscow, the party's Web site said.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of Russia's LDPR party and deputy speaker of the country's lower house, said the Arab world needed change, RIA Novosti reported Monday.

"Change is inevitable. A real revolution is taking place in the Middle East," Zhirinovsky said. "People do not want to live as they lived 10, 20 or 30 years before."

Addressing Gadhafi, Zhirinovsky said, "I invite you to make Moscow your place of permanent residence."

At least 200 people have been killed in weeklong protests against Gadhafi's 40-year rule amid reports of government forces opening fire on demonstrators.

The Arab League censured the Libyan authorities Monday for their brutal treatment of peaceful demonstrators and demanded an immediate end to the violence, the Egyptian MENA news agency said.

"The Arab world's demands for reform, development and changes are totally legitimate," Arab League chief Amr Moussa said.
