AJACCIO, France, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- The mother of missing twins supposedly killed by their father has joined the search for them in Corsica, police said Sunday.
Irina Lucidi and her brother flew in from Switzerland and boarded a police helicopter to fly over parts of the island mentioned by the girls' father, Matthias Schepp, in his letters, police told Britain's Sky News.
In a letter sent before he threw himself under a train in southern Italy Feb. 4, Schepp said he killed 6-year-old Alessia and Livia.
Despite the confession, Lucidi said she had "not lost hope" of finding her children.
Police in Switzerland, France and Italy have been searching for the girls since Schepp failed to return them to his estranged wife Jan. 30.
French police have been scouring Corsica from Propriano in the southwest, where Schepp arrived with the twins, to Bastia in the northeast, whence he left, apparently alone.
Italian police are searching a canal near the station in Cerignola, where Schepp committed suicide, for a satellite navigator from his car that could trace his movements, ANSA reported.
