MILAN, Italy, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Supporters of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi marched in Milan Saturday, protesting his pending prosecution on sex charges, reports said.
Although only a few hundred people marched in the support demonstration, worldwide expressions of contempt were made on the Internet for the 74-year-old, who is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old girl and later allegedly trying to manipulate police into waiving charges of theft against her.
Berlusconi has vehemently denied the allegations outlined in some 800 pages of prosecution documents, claiming the move is politically motivated against his center-right party, The Guardian newspaper said.
Meanwhile, an Internet-based movement to protest the billionaire's alleged abuse of young women has mushroomed to the point where more than 250 international demonstrations were scheduled for Sunday, the report said.
Berlusconi could be put on trial as early as April if the courts validate the prosecutors' allegations.
