Storm a minor nuisance in eastern Canada

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A storm winter caused scattered power outages across Maritime Canada Sunday.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported about 400 customers without electricity in New Brunswick and 100 in Nova Scotia.

"There's been a few outages caused by high winds, causing tree branches to come into contact with lines, but we've been pleased that this storm hasn't caused any significant, widespread problems," said David Rhoidenizer of Nova Scotia Power.

Mel Lemmon, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said, "The worst is over for most of southern and western Nova Scotia and even central areas. Cape Breton is certainly into the strongest winds right now, but in terms of precipitation, most of the heavy snow is done now."

He said forecasters are watching another storm that is expected to bring snow to the area Tuesday.
