Report: Egyptians move money from turmoil

CAIRO, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A number of Egyptian businessmen shipped their money abroad after anti-government demonstrations began earlier this week, observers said.

Egyptian media personality Emad Adib said he also expected business leaders to flee and government officials to resign if the violent protester-police confrontations escalate, al-Masry al-Youm reported Friday.

"The people who took to the streets do not belong to political parties, nor do they have political orientations," Adib said Thursday. "They are the Internet generation."

He attributed the unrest to alleged rigging of last year's parliamentary elections, noting many people were frustrated by election results.

"Change does not only mean overthrowing the government," Adib said. "It also means an end to corruption and inflation, and the improvement of public services."
