IQALUIT, Nunavut, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- The governments of Nunavut and Northwest Territories will pay a total of $15 million to 66 victims of sex offender Edward Horne, the CBC reported Tuesday.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said it is the second multimillion-dollar settlement reached in the case of Horne, who has been convicted twice of sexually abusing students he taught during the 1970s and 1980s. Horne worked in several communities in the region during the 1970s and '80s.
In the first settlement in 2002, 85 men or their estates received $21.5 million.
Brad Patzer, a lawyer with the Northwest Territories Department of Justice, said there could be additional cases.
