Mob attacks al-Jazeera office

RAMALLAH, Israel, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A Palestinian mob, angry at an al-Jazeera report on concessions allegedly made to Israel, vandalized the network's office, onlookers said.

After broadcasting documents it called the "Palestine Papers," alleging a 2008 meeting between the Palestinian Authority and Israel resulted in an agreement in which "Israel annexes all settlements in Jerusalem except (Har Homa -- a neighborhood in East Jerusalem)," an angry crowd Monday attacked al-Jazeera's Ramallah office, the Ma'an new agency reported.

Palestinian leaders had called the report inaccurate possibly leading to the unrest. A dozen young people broke through a security gate at the news network's building and sprayed graffiti.

"Al-Jazeera's information is full of distortions and fraud," Palestine Liberation Organization chief Yasser Abed Rabbo said Monday.

The Ramallah municipality urged restraint but also saluted "the position of the Palestinian street," the news agency said.
