U.S. drone missiles kill 6 in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Robotic U.S. drone aircraft missiles killed six suspected militants in two strikes Sunday in northern Pakistan, intelligence officials said.

The strikes happened in the North Waziristan region of northwestern Pakistan that borders Afghanistan and sparked a protest of nearly 1,000 people in the town of Mir Ali, CNN reported.

The first missile attack killed four people and the second killed two others, but there was no report on how many were injured.

The drones fired missiles in Datta Khel, some 25 miles west of North Waziristan's main town of Miranshah, Geo News said.

Protesters said they were tired of living in fear of the U.S. raids they allege are killing innocent civilians.

U.S. intelligence officials claim the remote and mountainous region is a mustering area for al-Qaida and Taliban Muslim insurgents in Afghanistan, where NATO forces have been deployed since 2001.
