Official slammed for Holocaust denial

JERUSALEM, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The Anti-Defamation League in Israel condemned remarks made by a Gaza Hamas official who said the Holocaust was a lie.

"Once again, the abhorrent and hateful philosophy of Hamas has reared its ugly head, polluting the public square with Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism," said a statement released by Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director. "These comments are a disturbing reminder of the virulent anti-Semitism promoted by Hamas and the ongoing threat the group poses to Israel."

Foxman was referring to comments made by Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar, who spoke Thursday at a memorial service for 43 Palestinians killed at a United Nations school during an Israeli military incursion in Gaza in December 2008, The Jerusalem Post reported.

"The lie of the Zionist Holocaust crumbles with countless holocausts committed by the Zionists in Beit Hanoun, al-Fakhoura school and other places in Palestine," al-Zahar said.
