OTTAWA, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper says his government is discussing increased cooperation with the United States on trade and security.
Harper confirmed talks were continuing on the topics, although no agreements had been reached, Postmedia News said Sunday.
Postmedia said the gist of the negotiations was increasing the level of U.S.-Canada cooperation on external security issues in exchange for loosening Washington's restrictions on cross-border trade.
"We're looking at ways we can enhance both our mutual security and the economic access we have to each other's economies," Harper said in a weekend interview with CTV News. "We haven't got an agreement yet, but we are looking at ways that we can enhance that and we think that that's what Canadians really want."
