BEIRUT, Lebanon, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Lebanese military officials say they are investigating alleged Israeli "spy devices" found on mountaintops around Beirut earlier this week.

Lebanese newspaper As-Safir alleged the devices photograph movement in the area, help the Israeli air force find targets and bug all the telephones nearby.

The paper added that the devices' batteries showed that they were meant to operate for a long period of time.

The Lebanese military released pictures Thursday of what it said were Hebrew markings on the espionage equipment it claimed to have uncovered, The Jerusalem Post reported.

One of the long-range spy systems was reportedly discovered on Mount Sannine, which overlooks Beirut and the eastern Bekaa Valley, and a second was found on Mount Barouk, southeast of the capital, the army said in a statement that credited Hezbollah with providing information leading to the discoveries.

Israeli officials have made no comment on the claims, whose authenticity is unclear, the Post said.
