KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Authorities have detained several people in a Taliban bombing that killed six U.S. soldiers in southern Afghanistan, officials said.
The individuals were detained after Afghan and coalition forces carried out two operations in Kandahar and Helmand provinces searching for the individual responsible for Sunday's attack, CNN reported.
Asked if the person responsible for Sunday's attack was among those detained, a spokesman for the U.S. military said officials are "still assessing the individuals detained."
In Sunday's raid, a suicide bomber driving a minibus loaded with explosives attacked a small joint NATO-Afghan army compound near the village of Sangsar.
The explosion also killed two Afghan national army soldiers and a child, and wounded six other Afghan soldiers, the report said.
Officials said the individual targeted in Sunday's bombing coordinates attacks in the area and acquires and provides weapons for insurgent use throughout central Kandahar.
