Suicide bomb strikes Pakistan hospital

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- At least nine people were killed and 28 wounded in a suicide bombing at a hospital in northwestern Pakistan Friday, police said.

The target was the gate of the al-Zuhra hospital and maternity center in Pass Kalay, a town in the district of Hangu, Police Chief Abdul Rashid Khan told CNN.

The blast also damaged an adjoining Shiite mosque, two houses and two vehicles, he said. At least two children were killed.

The region has had sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shiites.

The attack came on the second day of Muharram, one of the holiest days in the Shiite calendar.
