Shark kills swimmer at Egyptian resort

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- An elderly German tourist was killed by a shark Sunday while swimming off a beach at the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheik, authorities said.

The fish bit off the 70-year-old woman's leg and hand, and she died immediately, the al-Masry al-Youm newspaper reported. Her body was taken to a local morgue and the German Embassy in Cairo notified.

Tourism Minister Zoheir Garranah ordered that all beaches in the area closed and all maritime recreation, including diving, stopped until the shark is found.

Last week, three Russians and a Ukrainian vacationing in Sharm el-Sheik were attacked by sharks but survived.
