Another collapse at Pompeii

NAPLES, Italy, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Heritage and art experts in Italy said they are assessing the damage to one of Pompeii's best-known houses, the House of the Moralist.

A dry stone wall in the garden of the house collapsed Tuesday, raising new concerns about the state of the world heritage site, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Pompeii's House of the Moralist is not far from the Gladiators' School which drew worldwide concern when it collapsed November 6.

The incident produced calls for the resignation of Culture Minister Sandro Bondi who said the government would set up a new foundation to prevent further deterioration of the 2,000-year-old Roman City.

Bondi told Italy's Parliament the new foundation would "assess the state of decay" at Pompeii and decide what action to take.

Every year more than 2 million people visit the ancient Roman city that was destroyed in 79 AD by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
