LONDON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Wikileaks said it was under cyberattack Sunday as it released more than 250,000 U.S. diplomatic cables.
The self-described international whistle-blower stated on its Twitter feed, "We are currently under a mass distributed denial of service attack," The Sunday Telegraph reported.
Such an attack is meant to make a Web site unavailable to users, normally by flooding it with requests for data.
The site said the sabotage would not stop the news organizations it had given the material to from publishing. They are El Pais in Spain, Le Monde in France, Der Spiegel in Germany, The Guardian in Britain and The New York Times in the United States.
The reported cyber interference came after the United States warned WikiLeaks Editor in Chief Julian Assange that publishing the papers would be illegal and endanger peoples' lives.
