Lightning kills 7 in South Africa

PONGOLA, South Africa, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A lightning strike in Pongola, South Africa, killed seven people and injured 14 others, police said.

The fatal lightning bolt struck a tent during a Christmas creche event Friday in the KwaZulu-Natal province community, Primemedia Broadcasting reported.

"All the people that were in the tent were struck by lightning," police spokesman Jay Naicker said. "Five passed away on the scene, two passed away in hospital, and 14 are in a local hospital and they are receiving treatment."
