ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Attempted suicide assaults on a mosque and government buildings in Islamabad were thwarted Friday, Pakistan said.
One of the two men captured was wearing a bomb vest and was on his way to bomb a mosque during Friday prayers, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told state-run Pakistan Television. The other target was the Parliament and nearby offices.
"We have foiled a plot to attack Parliament and surrounding buildings, and a mosque, and arrested two militants," Malik said.
He said the mosque was in a neighborhood inhabited by many wealthy Pakistanis and foreigners.
In the northwest, at least three people were wounded when two NATO helicopters that crossed the border from Afghanistan struck a village in North Waziristan's Dattakhel district Friday, Dawn News reported.
The helicopters, several miles into Pakistani territory, hit the village of Lowara Mandi, according to television reports in Peshawar.
There has been no official comment on the report.
