LONDON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- British officials say the government won't tolerate anti-Semitic and homophobic lessons taught to Muslim children in the United Kingdom.
One textbook used by Saudi Students' Schools and Clubs asks students to list the "reprehensible" attributes of Jews and another describes the punishment for gay sex as death, the BBC reported.
More than 40 Saudi Students' Schools and Clubs are teaching the official national curriculum to about 5,000 students but the Saudi government says it had no ties to organizations, the report said.
The Saudi government owns one of the buildings where students are being taught, the BBC said.
"To my mind it doesn't seem to me that this is the sort of material that should be used in English schools," said Education Secretary Michael Gove.
The part-time schools do not fall within Britain's Ofsted school inspectorate, but British officials are looking into their possible regulation and inspection.
"Ofsted are doing some work in this area, they'll be reporting to me shortly about how we can ensure that part-time provision is better registered and better inspected in the future," Gove said.
A BBC investigation three years ago found a Saudi-funded school in west London using texts referring to Jews and Christians in derogatory terms.
