Montreal firebombing under investigation

MONTREAL, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The firebombing of a popular Italian grocery store and deli in Montreal might be the result of a Mafia war or a street-gang battle over turf, officials said.

The Thursday morning firebomb did little damage to Cavallaro Fine Foods, and that no one was injured, the CBC reported.

"Arson squad investigators will be looking into this case to understand why this specific place was targeted," Constable Anie Lemieux said.

She said it's too soon to know if the firebombing is related to nearly two dozen other firebombings since spring.

"It's still undetermined who did this," Lemieux said. "Arson squad investigators will be going to the scene to gather as many elements as possible to see if this event is related to any other similar events."

Police said some of the earlier incidents may be related to a Mafia war or a street-gang battle over turf, the report said.
