ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A strike by an unmanned airplane on an insurgent compound in Pakistan's tribal region near Afghanistan killed at least 20 militants Tuesday, officials said.

Officials said U.S. drones fired six missiles on a compound and a vehicle, Geo News reported.

"Militants were using the compound as a training facility," the official said.

A local intelligence official and another security official in Peshawar confirmed the drone attack and toll, Geo News reported.

The strike hit targets in Ghulam Khan on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border near Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal district, officials said. The area is considered a stronghold for Taliban and fighters with ties al-Qaida fighters.
