1 large bottle of red wine: $304,375

GENEVA, Switzerland, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Someone paid a world record $304,375 for a six-liter bottle of 1947 French Cheval-Blanc red wine Tuesday, an auction house in Geneva, Switzerland, said.

The name of the private collector who submitted the winning bid during the sale at Christie's for the rare Bordeaux wasn't revealed. But whoever it was went well above the $150,000 to $250,000 the auction house had estimated it would fetch, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Christie's wine expert Michael Ganne said the wine is the "only known bottle in the imperial format" for this particular Saint-Emilion vintage.

"We are absolutely delighted by the result obtained by this bottle of mythical Cheval-Blanc 1947," Ganne said.

Ganne said the winning bid reset the bar in the wine category.
