BEIJING, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- China says it will embrace green and low-carbon development goals, step up resource-saving efforts and protect the environment.
Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said the country would strive to transform its economic growth model in an effort to build an energy-saving and environmentally friendly society, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported Friday.
Li made the comments Wednesday at the annual meeting of the Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development in Beijing.
China will promote development of emerging industries of strategic importance, high-tech industries and modern service industries while conducting technological innovation on traditional industries to maintain a sustainable development, Li said.
He also promised protection of the country's major ecological conservation areas to facilitate biological diversity.
