LIMA, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A Peruvian court granted a second parole to Lori Berenson, an American citizen who spent 15 years in prison for aiding leftist rebels.
The court ordered Berenson to be released from prison where she had been held since August for failing to provide a legitimate address to Peruvian authorities.
The BBC said Berenson, 40, showed no emotion during the proceedings.
Berenson served 15 years in prison for aiding leftist rebels and was paroled in May. She has denied any ties with the Marxist Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, which was active at the same time the more-violent Shining Path was locked in a bloody insurgency with the Lima government.
Berenson and the wife of a Tupac Amaru leader were arrested in 1995 for allegedly using falsified press credentials to gain entry to the Peruvian Congress. Authorities contend the two were casing the building in preparation of a planned raid by the rebels.
She was convicted in 2001 on a charge of terrorist collaboration and sentenced to 20 years, including credit for five years of time served.
