Chinese boy survives falls from 20th floor

GUIYANG, China, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- A 10-year-old boy Chinese boy plunged from the 20th floor of an apartment building, landed on a car roof and survived, authorities said.

The boy, whose name was not reported, suffered only slight injuries when he fell Monday from an open apartment building window in Guiyang in southwest China's Guizhou province, China's state-run news agency, Xinhua, reported.

The child's landing broke the roof and back windshield of a Citroen car, but his head was somewhat protected by a pillow on the back seat, police said.

"Video from the building's surveillance camera showed he climbed on to the window sill about 20 inches above the floor. The window was open and it was raining outside," said a police officer, who gave only his surname, Shuai.

Shuai said the assumption is the fall was accidental, not a suicide attempt, but an investigation was still being conducted.

The boy suffered a sub-arachnoid hemorrhage, which means bleeding on the brain. His condition was stable and no fractures were found.

The building's property manager, Li Lun, said his company would put up safety railings to prevent further accidents.
