Man killed by own booby trap

MONTREAL, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A Canadian man died when he accidentally pulled a string attached to his own booby trap and shot himself, police said.

Jos Lawrence Potvin of Levis, south of Quebec City, had rigged the booby trap to protect his home from intruders, The (Montreal) Gazette reported.

Potvin, a 75-year-old hunter who lived alone, had complained to police someone was trying to rob him, but police said they never found any evidence that was the case.

Police said the man accidentally pulled a string running along the floor of the entrance to his bedroom, which was tied to the trigger of a rifle. The gun discharged and killed him.

His body was discovered Thursday and police said they have ruled out suicide.
