QUITO, Ecuador, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The president of an Ecuadorian gold mine says the two remaining miners trapped since part of a mine collapsed last week have been found dead.
Rescuers had believed the two miners were in a tunnel with water and air, but Angel Vera and Pedro Mendosa were found dead, CNN reported Thursday.
Four miners were trapped in the collapse Friday in Portovelo, near Ecuador's southern border with Peru; rescuers earlier found two of them dead.
Minesadco mine company president Juan Cando Pacheco said it was believed the trapped miners had enough air and water to last six days.
The accident happened just days after the rescue of 33 miners trapped underground for more than two months in Chile, the report said.
