MOGADISHU, Somalia, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Renewed combat between the transitional Somali government and Islamic rebels shook Mogadishu Friday, witnesses said.
The fighting broke out in the city's Hodan district when al-Shabaab fighters attacked government bases, causing an unknown number of civilian deaths and injuries, the Shabelle Media Network reported.

Residents said a civilian was killed and two others wounded and gunfire could be heard in all directions.
The clash was a flareup of a long-running conflict between the factions in Mogadishu.
