Mosque in West Bank defaced, burned

HEBRON, Israel, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A West Bank mosque was defaced with blasphemous graffiti and set afire, Palestinian officials said.

Local Palestinian residents alleged Israeli settlers set copies of the Koran on fire and sprayed anti-Mohammed graffiti on the walls, The Jerusalem Post reported Monday.

Residents said a scuffle broke out between residents and local settlers in Beit Fajar north of Hebron.

Settlers who resist the Israeli government's partial freeze of settlement expansion have adopted what they call the "price tag" policy, the Post reported.

Several "price tag" attacks have occurred in Palestinian villages, the newspaper said.

In the Beit Fajar mosque, slogans such as "revenge" and "price tag" were sprayed on the walls alongside an Israeli flag, Ynetnews.com reported.

Police and military forces have entered the village to investigate further.

There are no suspects in the case at this time, Ynetnews said.
