Husband-killer meant to burn his penis

ADELAIDE, Australia, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- An Australian woman who burned her husband to death said she intended to burn only his genitals, prosecutors said.

The prosecution in Rajini Narayan's murder trial in South Australia's Supreme Court in Adelaide said Wednesday she made the claim to neighbors right after the fire, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Prosecutors said Narayan set her husband, Satish, on fire at their home in December 2008 because she thought he was having an affair.

The defense said she came to believe that if she burned his penis he would stay with her, but she ended up throwing a container of gasoline and a candle on his back when he dismissed her threat.

He died from his burns three weeks later.

The defense told the jury Narayan's husband had physically and emotionally abused her for 20 years but she still loved him.
