Russia gets invite to NATO summit

MOSCOW, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Moscow has received a formal invitation to attend an upcoming NATO summit in Lisbon, Portugal, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Saturday.

The invitation is an effort to enhance Russia's cooperation on several fronts, including the war in Afghanistan, and ways to combat terrorism and drug trafficking, RIA Novosti reported.

NATO and Russian officials recently met to discuss the November summit. Lavrov said he is preparing a report for Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to use at the summit.
