Women sue over sperm mixup

OTTAWA, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Two Canadian women have accused an Ottawa fertility doctor of mixing up sperm samples for their artificial inseminations.

Jacquelin Slinn and Trudy Moore have filed separate lawsuits seeking damages from Dr. Norman Barwin for providing different donor sperm than the ones they chose, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Wednesday.

The two women say DNA tests indicate the donors they selected are not the fathers of their children.

Barwin has denied any wrongdoing and has asked the court to dismiss the lawsuits.

Canada doesn't regulate fertility clinics. No special license or accreditation is required for performing artificial insemination.
