JERUSALEM, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Palestinians in Gaza fired two Qassam rockets at southern Israel Monday but there were no reports of damage or injuries, the Israeli army said.
Residents in the western Negev were alerted by the Color Red early warning system shortly before the rockets exploded in the Sha'ar Hanegev region.
Since the eve of the Jewish New Year last week, Qassam rockets and mortar shells have been fired at southern Israel daily. In one incident Friday, a rocket exploded near day-care centers in a kibbutz in the Sha'ar Hanegev regional council.
On Sunday, Yuval Diskin, head of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), warned Hamas intends to increase attacks against Israel in an effort to interfere with the peace process and derail the current round of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
Diskin said the security establishment, based on intelligence information, has determined Hamas will escalate attacks against Israel as the peace talks progress.
"Hamas forces in Gaza and the West Bank are engaged in an effort to foil peace talks," Diskin said.
Diskin said "threats are due to increase in the near future as diplomatic developments occur," Haaretz reported Monday.
