9 indicted on war crimes in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Nine men who were members of the paramilitary group known as the Jackals have been indicted in Serbia for alleged war crimes.

The Serbian news agency Tanjug reported Saturday the nine defendants are accused of brutal crimes against Albanian civilians in the village of Cuska.

Tanjug said there are 17 other suspects who are fugitives in the slayings of more than 200 Albanian civilians in the 1990s.

The nine indicted defendants -- Toplica Miladinovic, Srecko Popovic, Slavisa Kastratovic, Boban Bogicevic, Zvonimir Cvetkovic, Radoslav Brnovic, Vidoje Koricanin, Veljko Koricanin and Abdulah Sokic -- are accused of kidnapping children and threatening them with knives to their throats. They also allegedly shot at the feet of civilians and assaulted the men of the village in front of the women and children.
