Son amputates father's arm in rescue

OLOFSTRöM, Sweden, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The son of an elderly Swedish man was forced to cut his father's arm off after it was caught in machinery, officials said.

The man called for help after his clothes became entangled in a piece of machinery near Olofström, in southern Sweden, and his son cut his father's arm off to prevent the machinery from strangling him, a report in the newspaper Blekinges Läns Tidning said.

The man and his father were taken to a hospital for treatment.
