Police probing Egyptian election campaign

CAIRO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Police in Egypt say they are investigating campaign posters backing Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman for president.

The posters -- which have been taken down -- showed Suleiman waving and claimed he was the "real alternative" to lead Egypt, Al Arabiya reported Sunday.

President Hosni Mubarak, 82, has not annouced whether he will seek another term next year. His son, Gamal, was the subject of another recent poster campaign, sparking speculation he will seek his father's seat, Al Arabiya said.

Announced presidential candidate -- former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohammed ElBaradei -- has accused Mubarak's government of posting photos of his daughter wearing a swimsuit at events where alcohol is served on Facebook, Gulfnews.com said Sunday.

Elbaradei accused the government of waging a campaign of "sheeer lies," and using the photos to portray him and his family as non-believers, the Web site said.
