HANGZHOU, China, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Rescuers are searching for six missing people who fell off a Chinese cargo ship after it collided with a French oil tanker, local authorities said.
All seven people who were aboard the Chinese vessel fell into the water after the collision Tuesday near Ningbo City in Zhejiang Province, but one was rescued, the Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported.
The French vessel, Flandre, was not carrying oil, so there was no oil spill. The Flandre was heading for the United Arab Emirates from a Ningbo harbor when the collision occurred, a spokesman with the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration said.
Rescuers are searching for the missing persons, the spokesman said.
Local maritime affairs officials are investigating the accident's cause, he said.
