Moderate 5.7 quake hits northwest Iran

TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- A moderate magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck northwest Iran Friday night.

The quake was centered near the Caspian Sea, about 95 miles south of the city of Gorgan, the U.S. Geological Survey announced.

The quake hit shortly before 11 p.m. Iran time.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from Iranian media sources.
