U.K. transsexual sues former employer

LONDON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A transsexual caregiver in England is suing her former employer for allegedly firing her after she turned up at work wearing a dress, authorities say.

Rachel Millington, 24, said she had informed Housing and Support Solutions Ltd. in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, before she made her first appearance at work as a woman, The Sun reported.

She also told them she had changed her name from Andrew, the newspaper said.

The company was unsupportive, she said, and things got worse when she wore a dress for the first time.

"I came to work as Rachel and from then on it got worse. One day they phoned me and said, 'Don't bother coming in.'"

The disabled people she worked with had no problem with her new identity, she said.

Millington is suing for unfair dismissal, sexual discrimination and loss of earnings.

Housing and Support Solutions Ltd. had no comment on the case scheduled to be heard next month, the Sun reported.
