Wanted fugitive said back in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- As the United States finalizes its withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq, a senior terrorist wanted by Iraqi and U.S. forces reportedly has returned to Baghdad.

Ismail al-Lami, known as Abu Deraa and nicknamed the "Shiite Zarqawi," is believed to be behind major bomb attacks in Baghdad, the London newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported.

Quoting high-level security sources in Baghdad, the newspaper said claims Abu Deraa was killed by U.S. forces in November 2006 were in error.

The security source said: "Abu Deraa specializes in killing people using an electrical drill."

According to the report, he fled to Iran in 2008 and stayed in the city of Qom where he trained with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

The report said security officials are aware of Abu Deraa's presence in Sadr City, where he "enjoys freedom of movement and action" as commander of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq group.
