Sedative-spiked coffee at Paris hospital

PARIS, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Six staffers at a Paris hospital slept for hours after someone put a dose of a powerful antipsychotic drug in a thermos of coffee, police said.

All were awake by late Wednesday morning, Radio France Internationale reported. They all fell asleep before noon Tuesday after complaining of feeling sick to their stomachs.

The newspaper, Le Parisien, said the thermos was in a break room at L'Hotel Dieu Hospital. While use of the room is restricted to hospital employees, the door was unlocked.

The substance in the coffee was identified as Loxapac. A source told the newspaper police were searching for a female patient who had coffee in the staff room Monday night while being treated for psychiatric problems.

The person who spiked the coffee could face a charge of attempted poisoning.
