Lightning strikes plane, kills one

BOGOTA, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Lightning struck an airplane, causing it to break apart while landing on a Colombian island, killing one passenger and injuring 34 others, officials said.

San Andres island Gov. Pedro Gallardo said 131 people, including six crew members, were on board the Aires airline 737-700 jet when it crashed, CNN reported.

Officials said the plane split into at least two parts when it was struck by lightning.
